Issues

There is a never ending list of issues affecting our schools. These are a few that are on the top of my agenda.

Partnership with our Cities and LVUSD

I believe that the strength of our School District is closely tied to the relationships we have fostered with our cities. I would like to see those relationships continue to grow. The district does not exist in a bubble. It lives within the borders of Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village. Decisions made at the School District affect what happens with the Cities and what happens in the Cities affects the school district. We need to continue to have open dialogue to enable thoughtful discussions that culminate in the best outcome for our students.

Smart Phones and Social Media

Like it or not we have created a crisis for our children. Smart phones and social media have been credited for addictive behaviors, aggression, depression, self-hatred and the list goes on. We must find a way to use technology in the classroom while being mindful of how these technologies affect our children. My priority wil be to seek out thoughtful, evidence based ideas. Making sure to discuss all changes with parents and students. It's imperative that we all agree to a plan and follow through.

Absenteeism

The pandemic upended all our lives but in the four years since, most of us have gone back to our "normal" daily schedules. The one issue that has been slow to resolve itself is absenteeism. Making sure both parents and students feel supported with interventions to get students back on track is a high priority for me. I am happy to see that LVUSD is leading the way on this and will do my very best to continue the momentum of getting all students back to the classroom.
